The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism was founded at the University of Kansas in 1986 to provide a forum for innovative theoretical approaches to dramatic criticism and theatre studies. The journal has expanded its purview—and its readership—over the decades to reflect the changing fields of theatre and performance studies. Our internationally recognized publications overlap with performance studies, historiography, and cultural studies with a global reach. Our articles incorporate interdisciplinary research that in recent issues includes explorations into critical race theory, queer studies, aesthetics, international performance forms, and spectatorship, drawing on areas that range from philosophy to arts-based research.
